Massage
On-site seated massage (OSSM) is a highly effective form of massage
based on traditional Japanese techniques. During the On-Site sequence,
or Kata, the client is firstly relaxed and then re-energised by
working on pressure points on the back, head, shoulders, arms and
hands. A typical session will take around 15 to 20 minutes and usually
utilises an ergonomically designed chair.
OSSM is now a huge growth area in complementary healthcare world-wide.
It has been a massive industry in the U.S.A. and is now expanding
exponentially in the UK, becoming highly popular in airports, shopping

Between the first and last weekend of the course students complete
50 case studies each involving one 20 minute On-Site sequence with
the client’s comments recorded.
Additionally each student prepares
i) a summary business plan defining how to grow his/her practice
ii) sample promotional literature selling On-Site.
These practical elements ensure that the student is prepared to
effectively promote, sell and perform their On-Site skills to the
maximum on completion of the course.
Safety note: Anyone who is pregnant or trying to
conceive should not receive OSSM
Entry requirements: An appropriate qualification
in Massage, Aromatherapy, Shiatsu, Reflexology, Osteopathy, Physiotherapy,
Medicine or Nursing.
A comprehensive basis in Anatomy and Physiology is essential while
practical experience in’ hands-on’ therapeutic work
is preferred.
Assessment: Award of the diploma is based on a
process of continuous assessment
throughout the course, home exercises/projects, final written and
practical
examinations and the completion of formal case studies.
Course Duration: Three weekends over 8 to 10 week
period.
