Diploma in Remedial & Sports
Massage
Remedial massage involves the use of various techniques and modalities
to treat a wide range of conditions and injuries and to achieve
its main objectives of:
- reducing pain
- increasing range of movement
- restoring appropriate balance
Sports massage uses similar and additional techniques to also
- enhance athletic performance
- reduce the risk of re-injury
The Diploma in Remedial and Sports massage course provides excellent
practical coverage of both Remedial and Sports massage by building
on Swedish massage methods and introducing a wide variety of further
effective techniques. These include:
- assessment procedures to accurately identify conditions and
injuries
- myofascial, neuromuscular and muscle energy techniques
- trigger point therapy and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation
(PNF)
- stretching
- active, passive and resisted treatments.
The treatment of many common disorders and injuries is covered
along with a specific module dedicated to Sports Event Massage.
Further study in relevant Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology accompanies
the extensive ‘hands-on’ sessions ensuring the student
gains the necessary experience to practice successfully in both
the remedial and sports fields.
Assessment: Award of the diploma is based on a
process of continuous assessment throughout the course, home exercises,
final oral, written and practical examinations and the completion
of formal case studies.
Entry requirements: Recognised Diploma in Swedish
massage, Aromatherapy, Shiatsu or equivalent. These must have included
an appropriate module in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology.
Course Duration:
Nine weekends over a nine month period. (130 contact teaching hours)
