Diploma in Remedial & Sports Massage

Remedial massage involves the use of various techniques and modalities to treat a wide range of conditions and injuries and to achieve its main objectives of:

  • reducing pain
  • increasing range of movement
  • restoring appropriate balance

Sports massage uses similar and additional techniques to also

  • enhance athletic performance
  • reduce the risk of re-injury

The Diploma in Remedial and Sports massage course provides excellent practical coverage of both Remedial and Sports massage by building on Swedish massage methods and introducing a wide variety of further effective techniques. These include:

  • assessment procedures to accurately identify conditions and injuries
  • myofascial, neuromuscular and muscle energy techniques
  • trigger point therapy and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF)
  • stretching
  • active, passive and resisted treatments.

The treatment of many common disorders and injuries is covered along with a specific module dedicated to Sports Event Massage.

Further study in relevant Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology accompanies the extensive ‘hands-on’ sessions ensuring the student gains the necessary experience to practice successfully in both the remedial and sports fields.

Assessment: Award of the diploma is based on a process of continuous assessment throughout the course, home exercises, final oral, written and practical examinations and the completion of formal case studies.

Entry requirements: Recognised Diploma in Swedish massage, Aromatherapy, Shiatsu or equivalent. These must have included an appropriate module in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology.
